Le Tour de Vin Grant Request InformationIn 2003, Cross Timbers Rotary club introduced Le Tour de Vin as a new and exciting way to raise funds for community and other Rotary service projects. 2008 marked the first time Sooner and Norman Rotary clubs joined Cross Timbers to expand its success, and newly-formed Legacy Rotary club joined the collaboration in 2018. The evening features fine wine and whiskey-tasting, music, silent and live auctions, and hor d'oeuvres from Norman restaurants. Over the years, money raised has supported projects for local charities including Red Cross, Bridges, Mary Abbott House, Thunderbird Clubhouse, Food & Shelter, Center for Children and Families, Inc., The Studio of Sooner Theatre, Full Circle, The Virtue Center and The Share Center of Food & Shelter. Currently, applications for the LTDV 2025 recipient are being solicited by the Le Tour de Vin Grant Selection Committee. Supporting the Environment Seventh Area of FocusThe Rotary Foundation Trustees and Rotary International Board of Directors have both unanimously approved adding a new area of focus: supporting the environment. More than $18 million in Foundation global grant funding has been allocated to environment-related projects over the past five years. Creating a distinct area of focus to support the environment will give Rotary members even more ways to bring about positive change in the world and increase our impact. Supporting the environment becomes Rotary's seventh area of focus, which are categories of service activities supported by global grants. It joins peacebuilding and conflict prevention; disease prevention and treatment; water, sanitation, and hygiene; maternal and child health; basic education and literacy; and community economic development. Grant applications for projects will be accepted beginning on 1 July 2021. Gifts and commitments from Rotarians and others will be sought to provide global grant support for the new area of focus. |

RON BURTON ROTARY PARKThe Duncan Rotary Club needs your support to make the Ron Burton Rotary Park a reality in Duncan. Please consider contributing to our fundraiser to raise funds to re-create one of the Duncan Parks. The Duncan Club has adopted the old Jaycee Park and are working to revive it as the Ron Burton Rotary Park. As most of you know, Duncan is very proud of our Past International President and Rotary Foundation Chairman and we want to honor him by naming the park after him. The above drawing shows the new sign for the park and the outdoor musical instruments that will populate the park. Our goal is have four sets of instruments for kids and adults to play on at the park. This will make the park the most unique park in Duncan as it will not be the typical one with playground equipment on it but one that is musical. We think it will make the park a special place for everyone to come and enjoy. If you would like to help us please send your tax-deductible contribution to Color Duncan Beautiful (501-c 3) C/O Hal Pennington P.O. Box 580 Duncan, OK 73534 Any amounts will be helpful in raising the funds needed. Our deadline is June 24th and the amount needed is $20,228.05. In addition to the musical instruments and signage, the Duncan Club will be refurbishing existing picnic tables, swing set and jungle jim to improve the quality of the park. If your club wishes to make a contribution that would be great too. Hope you can help us. All donations will be acknowledged to you and to Ron. Thank you again for your help!! ROTARY COUNCIL ON LEGISLATION REPORTCouncil grants clubs greater flexibility in meeting, membershipThe 2016 Council on Legislation may well be remembered as one of the most progressive in Rotary history. Not only did this Council grant clubs more freedom in determining their meeting schedule and membership, it also approved an increase in per capita dues of $4 a year for three years. The increase will be used to enhance Rotary’s website, improve online tools, and add programs and services to help clubs increase membership. The Council is an essential element of Rotary’s governance. Every three years, members from around the world gather in Chicago to consider proposed changes to the policies that govern the organization and its member clubs. Measures that are adopted take effect 1 July. The tone for this year was set early, when the RI Board put forth two proposals that increase flexibility. The first measure allows clubs to decide to vary their meeting times, whether to meet online or in person, and when to cancel a meeting, as long as they meet at least twice a month. The second allows clubs flexibility in choosing their membership rules and requirements. Both passed. Representatives also approved removing six membership criteria from the RI Constitution and replacing them with a simple requirement that a member be a person of good character who has a good reputation in their business or community and is willing to serve the community. The $4 per year dues increase was based on a five-year financial forecast that predicted that if Rotary didn’t either raise dues or make drastic cuts, its reserves would dip below mandated levels by 2020. The yearly per capita dues that clubs pay to RI will be $60 in 2017-18, $64 in 2018-19, and $68 in 2019-20. The next council will establish the rate after that. “We are at a moment in time when we must think beyond the status quo,” said RI Vice President Greg E. Podd. “We must think about our future.” Podd said the dues increase will allow RI to improve My Rotary, develop resources so clubs can offer a better membership experience, simplify club and district reporting, improve website access for Rotaractors, and update systems to keep Rotary in compliance with changing global regulations. Also because of this Council’s decisions:

ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGEThe Rotary Youth Exchange Program does not happen without your club's support. Recruiting OUTBOUND ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE STUDENTS should be a continuous process for district Rotary clubs. Suggested recruitment sources are school language teachers, Interact, RYLA, church groups, news promotions and your own club or family contacts. Rotary clubs are asked to recruit students from their communities well in advance of their exchange year. In order to obtain exchanges for long term outbound students ages 15 1/2 to 18 1/2 , the district interviews occur each November for the next school year. ROTARY INTERNATIONAL MEETS US$200 MILLION POLIO CHALLENGERotary’s Challenge for polio eradication has reached the US$200 million milestone. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has awarded The Rotary Foundation an additional $50 million grant, which is not a challenge grant, in recognition of Rotary's early achievement of this milestone. To date, Rotarians worldwide have contributed more than $1 billion toward the eradication of polio, a cause Rotary took on in 1985. Additionally, Rotary club members worldwide are cautiously celebrating a major milestone in the global effort to eradicate polio. India, until recently an epicenter of the wild poliovirus, has gone one year without recording a new case of the crippling, sometimes fatal, disease. |
